Information from a letter he wrote that is reported
here. Jack Davis did really well against Tom Reynolds last time. Tom Reynolds is very powerful in the republican party and votes very conservatively. He is in the pocket of big business like few I've ever seen. He is a huge supporter of Walmart. He vocally and enthusiatically has supported that god awful Medicare D.
I feel that Tom Reynolds is more vulnerable than is believed. The economy in western NY has been bleeding jobs like a hemophiliac with a major artery severed. Medicare D is a disaster and there is a large senior citizen population up here. Sadly, a lot of the younger generations have moved to where the jobs are. I think Jack Davis can win a lot of people over by hitting the healthcare issue hard and critisizing Tom Reynold's support of the greatly unpopular Medicare D program. If more federal money were to be spent on health care, that would help alleviate some of the financial burden by New York State. Medicaid is 50% of the state budget. An efficient single federal single payer system would help a lot. He can also make some big headway with the jobs issue and the Iraq war. There have been lots of layoffs in the area. Kodak and Delphi are two recent examples. Tom Reynolds has an ultra conservative voting record and this is something I believe will allow Jack Davis to peel off moderates and independents.
Wouldn't it be great to take down Tom Reynolds? He is one of the top republicans there is. He is also the most conservative congressman in all of NY state. It would be a huge moral victory for the democrats and a crushing and humiliating defeat for the republicans. I know he can be defeated. I can feel it. He only won 56% of the vote in 2004 and the political climate has shifted so much against republicans for 2006. With Reynolds' stance on the unpopular Medicare D and his closeness to our increasingly unpopular president and his super friendliness to big corporate interests, Jack Davis can win this thing.
